Thomas Bernard Somerville Junior, a devoted father, community leader, and beloved friend, passed away peacefully on April 23, 2025, at the age of 75. His life was marked by service, creativity, and a deep, enduring love for his family and community.

Born on February 9, 1950, Thomas was the cherished son of Thomas Bernard Sommerville Senior and Vera Denise Maynard. He grew up in a large, loving family and was one of many siblings.

Thomas graduated from Dunbar High School, where he built the foundation for a life of purpose and passion. Following his graduation, he proudly served in the United States Army, demonstrating the values of dedication, courage, and honor that would continue to define his life.

After an honorable discharge from the army, he worked for the internal revenue services as a mail clerk for the Iternal Revenue services where he served 25 years, then retired. He was so dedicated that he received an award for never missing a day in the 25 years of work their at the department. Which he was so proud of.

A true lover of music, Thomas was a talented DJ and drummer whose passion for rhythm and sound brought joy to countless family gatherings and community events. His music was not just a hobby—it was a vital part of who he was, a way he connected with others and expressed his vibrant spirit.

His commitment to service extended to his community, where he worked as one of the organizers of the LeDroit Park friends and family reuion in Washington, D.C. Known for his generosity and warm-heartedness, Thomas made a lasting impact by nourishing both body and soul, offering meals and kindness in equal measure.

He is survived by his sons Lawrence Davis “Angee Davis” Deonte Hicks, and daughter Lakia Gunn. His grandchildren, Caress West, Briona Davis, Lawrence Davis Junior, his great grandchildren Rayona Davis, Koda Solar and a wide circle of cousins, nieces, and nephews, and a legacy of love and connection that will continue through the generations. He was immensely proud of his family, and his life was a testament to the bonds that sustained him.

Thomas will be remembered for his kind spirit, unwavering dedication to those around him, and the joy he brought through his music and service. His passing leaves a profound void, but his legacy lives on in every beat of a drum, every shared meal, and every heart he touched.

A celebration of his life will be held to honor the memory of a man who gave so much and asked for so little. In lieu of flowers, the family invites donations to local community centers or music education programs in his name.

Rest in eternal peace, Thomas Bernard Somerville Junior. You were truly one of a kind, and your light will never fade.
