Thelma Elizabeth Phillips Mitchener

Thelma Elizabeth Phillips Mitchener was born on February 26, 1943, to the late Minnie Sasser and Frank Phillips. Thelma transitioned peacefully on January 9, 2021, at WakeMed in Raleigh, NC. She is preceded in death by husband Donnie Mitchener, her parents, Minnie Sasser and Frank Phillips, daughter, Annie Atkinson Wiggins, and sister, Louise Webb. Thelma attended Wayne County Schools. She was employed by Fieldcrest and K R Edwards Leaf Tobacco Company in Smithfield, NC for a number of years and later became a homemaker. Mother Thelma Mitchener was an active member of Gospel Tabernacle United Holy Church in Freemont, NC. Thelma leaves to mourn: three daughters, JoAnn Holder of Selma, NC; Julia Ricks (Randolph) of Four Oaks, NC; Mary Magdalene Deyounks (Rick) of Cairo, GA; three sons, Jimmie Lee Atkinson (JoAnn) of Wendell, NC; Elbert (Peanut) Atkinson (LaTonya) of Smithfield, NC and Connell Atkinson (Tina) of Fuquay-Varina, NC. Thelma leaves a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. Thelma also leaves to mourn her beloved mother-in-law and father-in-law, Jesse and Anneil Mitchener of Middlesex, NC, sisters-in-law, Donna Mitchener Jones (Donald) of Middlesex, NC, Sandra Mitche-ner Walker (Gene) of Middlesex, NC, and brother-in-law Earis Mitchener (Ollie) of Middlesex, NC and a special friend, Mother Alverta Young of Eureka, NC.
