**Obituary of Sheila Mae Williamson Bethea**
Sheila Mae Williamson Bethea, born on October 24, 1954, in Elizabeth, New Jersey, to the late William E. Williamson, Sr. and Ruby M. Lewis Missouri, departed this life on November 17, 2025. Sheila was a proud graduate of Winfield Scott Elementary School and Battin High School in Elizabeth.
In 1970, she united in marriage with Calvin Bethea. Sheila honorably served her country in the U.S. Army from July 22, 1975, to July 27, 1977, where she worked in transportation. Following her discharge as a disabled veteran, she engaged in furthering her education at Johnston Community College in Smithfield, North Carolina. As a dedicated member of the community, Sheila was an active participant at St. Stephen’s Church of Christ in Princeton, North Carolina, under the guidance of Elder Larry Witherspoon.
Sheila cherished her time with her daughter, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, whom she affectionately called “The Crew 10.” Known for her vibrant personality, she brought laughter and joy to all who knew her. Family held a central place in Sheila’s life, and she held a particular fondness for her mother, as well as her five great-granddaughters. Her beloved toy poodles, Sassy and Cash, were cherished companions, and she found beauty in butterflies, often reflecting her favorite colors of baby blue and red.
One of Sheila's greatest joys was singing; she had established a studio in her home in Smithfield. She valued quality time spent shopping and adventuring with loved ones, especially her daughter and sister Valerie. With an unwavering belief in living life to the fullest, Sheila took great pride in presenting herself elegantly.
Sheila was known for her generous heart, always willing to spoil those around her without seeking anything in return except love. A protector and confidant for her family, she offered encouragement and kindness generously. The love and appreciation from those she touched were the greatest gifts she valued in her life.
Sheila is survived by her loving mother, Ruby Missouri; her daughter, Cecelia Meadows (Brandon) of Delaware; three granddaughters, Cecelia Starlitta Bethea, Diamond T. Starling, and Dasia A. Starling; and five great-granddaughters, Jewel K. Doss, Zara S. Leverett, Ruby M. Doss, Treasure K. Nash, and Dayci R. Leverett.
Her legacy continues through her siblings: William E. Williamson (Kristina) of Hanover, MD; Beverly R. Williamson Diggs of Laurel, MD; and Valerie J. Williamson (Garry) of New Bern, NC. Additionally, she is survived by her half-siblings, Dana Williamson, Rickey Greene, Lisa Greene, Tracey Greene, and Michelle Williamson, all of New Jersey, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of loved ones, including her uncle, Jesse Lewis, of Goldsboro, NC, and her three godchildren: Zyiel Lopez of Princeton, NC, and Zumera and Tumera Watson of Rahway, NJ.
Sheila was preceded in death by her beloved grandmother, Amanda Grandy Watson, who held a special place in her heart. Her bright spirit and loving nature will be profoundly missed by all who knew her.
