In the early morning hours on December 24, 2025, Dr. Shawanda Lynett Watson earned her wings to her heavenly home. Dr. Shawanda L Watson, daughter of Catherine Revell Watson and the late Howard Watson was born August 27, 1963 in Smithfield, NC,
During her childhood, she attended Lee’s Chapel AME Church Selma, NC and Red Hill United Church of Christ, Clayton, NC. As years passed, she accepted Christ, was baptised and became a member of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, Wendell NC.
She was a loving and caring individual who believed her mission was to love, comfort and encourage others along in life. She had a spirit that was contagious, filled with lots of love for everyone, especially the elderly.
She enjoyed and loved her family, friends and all who crossed paths with her. She loved singing hymns and stated they told a story or sent a message of direction and comfort.
She was a 1982 graduate of Smithfield Selma Senior High School in Smithfield, NC. She attended Johnston Community College and received an Associate degree in Criminal Justice. She was employed as a Security Officer for 33 years ending employment with Allied Universal Security in Zebulon, NC.
Dr. Shawanda Watson was licensed and ordained through Johnston District Missionary Baptist Association and served as Associate Pastor at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Wendell, NC where she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. Throughout the years, Dr. Watson attended Shaw University Divinity
School in Service classes and received her Associate Degree in Biblical Studies from New Life Bible Training Institute. She later obtained her Bachelor, Masters, and Doctoral degrees in Biblical Studies from Safe Haven Interdenominational Bible Training Institute of Zebulon, NC. Dr. Watson shared the gospel through Community Outreach while singing with The Voice of Praise of Wendell and Prison Ministry at Wake Advancement Center.
She leaves to cherish her memories; her loving and devoted mother, Catherine Revell Watson, Selma, NC; brother, Gerald Watson (Janet), Selma, NC, sister, Shelia Watson Lassiter, Clayton, NC, brother, O’Shay Watson (Patrice) Upper Marlboro, Md; three nieces; Shenise Lassiter, Alana Lester (Ty), Shaylin Watson; two nephews, Dimitri and Juwan Watson; two great nieces, Younique Lassiter, Madison Speights, one great nephew, Tristan Speights; God children, Alexis Camacho and Jerrell Wiliams, Zintavius Cooley; one aunt, Christabelle Harlee, Clayton, NC and a host of special cousins, other relatives and friends.
