Rosetta Watson

October 11, 1935 — January 23, 2019

Rosetta Watson was born October 11, 1935 to the late Reverend James Galloway Watson, Sr. and the late Meta H. Watson. She was the seventh child of nine siblings. She was preceded in death by four brothers,
Alonzo Sr., Onslow, James Galloway, Jr and Howard and one sister, Ida. W. Wilson.
Rosetta served in many capacities of the church including: Director of Vacation Bible School, Sunday School Teacher, Usher, Superintendent of Sunday School, Senior Choir member, Chairperson of The Search
Committee and Financial Secretary.
She was a member of the Johnston County Training School Class of 1953, later renamed Johnston Central High School. She received her AB Degree in Elementary Education from Shaw University in 1957 and
further studies were done at North Carolina Central University in Durham.
Rosetta taught school in Warrenton, Georgia for several years before returning to North Carolina where she taught at The Short Journey School in Smithfield, N.C. and Smithfield Elementary School and was a NCEA
representative for her school, Smithfield Elementary School. She retired in 1996. While in Georgia, she had the privilege to meet and march along with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and would often say,
" I walked with the King."
Rosetta was a giving person, often offering her kindness to help and assist those in need including food, finances, and a home.
She enjoyed cooking, working in her yard, reading and reciting poetry. She encouraged others to speak up and speak out.
She was a Charter Member of the Clayton Branch of the National Association Of University Women where served as Chaplain and was honored as Woman Of the Year.
Rosetta leaves to cherish her memories, three sisters: Idella W. Gordon, Raleigh, NC, Eula W. Carter, Clayton, NC, and Christabelle W. Harlee (Robert), Clayton, NC; sister-in-law, Catherine Revells Watson, Selma,
NC; a special friend, Lonnie Long of Maryland and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
