Rosa Mae Sanders

May 10, 1925 — February 2, 2020

Rosa Mae Sanders
Early Sunday morning, the 2nd of February 2020, Angels came down and quietly carried Rosa Mae Sanders home. (Our Lord and Savior, thus saw fit to choose our beloved one to join HIS garden of flowers) Her spirit was taken to an eternal place of rest – free of pain – a place where she is guaranteed her admittance from when she gave her life as a Disciple of Christ at an early age, at St. Peter Church of Christ.
Rosa Mae Sanders affectionately called "Rose "was born May 10, 1925, in Smithfield, N.C. to the late Rosa and Henry Sanders. She was the youngest of nine children. Rosa was surrounded by love from Joe, Chloe, Amanda, Walt, Lenard, James, Henry and Frances, all now deceased.
Rosa Mae was educated in the Johnston County School System and later attended the Sales Beauty School in Wilson, N.C. She was educated in cosmetology, hairstyling, sewing, and fashion. Her mother, Rosa Bell, well known for her skills as a seamstress, shared her talents with Rose.
Rosa Mae was a loving and devoted mother to her only child, Dennis Sanders (deceased). She worked extremely hard to provide for his every need and more. She was a dedicated and committed employee at Sylvania Company, Burlington Mill Industries, Johnston County School System and retired from the Johnston County Library System in 1990. Rose enjoyed reading magazines including Ebony and Jet and any cookbook she could put her hands on!
Rosa Mae had a love for cooking, baking, canning fruits and vegetables. Her family specialties were her homemade delicious coconut and pineapple cakes, along with her chow-chow. She often gave her baked goods and canned items as gifts during the holiday seasons to family and friends as a show of her love and thankfulness.
Rosa Mae spent summers and holidays traveling to New York and Washington, D.C. visiting with her sisters, Amanda and Frances and her son, Dennis. They in return would visit her home and enjoyed traveling to Raleigh to shop and exchange fashion tips. She introduced her nieces and nephews to their cousins and they all enjoyed running and playing throughout Belmont. She would pile her nieces and nephews into her clean car and take them back and forth from Smithfield to Selma, also to Henderson and Wallace, N.C to visit other relatives. Later, she made memories by cruising to the Bahamas, traveling to Florida, Georgia, and Maryland.
Rosa Mae was a tender spirit. She would listen with a quiet ear and share her words of wisdom. She made sure that the advice she gave was not of a selfish nature, but pleasing to God. During the years, she saw beauty in style. She strongly believed that one's appearance spoke volumes of one's skills and talents. However, she would follow up by saying, "You can't judge a book by its cover!"
Rosa Mae loved her church and the fellowship that she experienced over the years. She was a member of the Floral Club at St. Peter Church of Christ. She was a very dedicated member of the Silverdale Court, Chapter #134, Order of the Eastern Star, PHA, District 21 in the Jurisdiction of N.C.
Rosa Mae is loved and cherished by her devoted nieces and nephews, Sandra Clay, Winnie Smith (Rickey), Major Smith (Maria), Gregory Smith and Offie "Link" Dublin. Great nieces and nephews Quarvis Clay, Chimere Wilson (Bruce), Tiffany, Jamar, Shane Smith, Dennis Jones, and Christopher Smith. Great-great nieces and nephews, Saundre and Chirelle Wilson, Brianna, Kyleigh, Domani and Izayah Jones and Ariel Smith and a host of relatives and friends.
