In 1977, he graduated from Johnson Bible College (now Johnson University) in Knoxville, Tennessee. He then began a 20-year life of service pastoring churches in Indiana, New Mexico and Tennessee. He then worked for the Tennessee Department of Adult Protective Services, and retired shortly after. He and Loretta moved to Clayton, North Carolina, where he lived out the remainder of his earthly life.
Bob was loved by everyone who met him. He loved to study the Word of God and wanted to know as much as he could about His Lord. He loved all kinds of music, but his favorites included hymns, southern gospel, and anything by Elvis. He also loved spending time with his family, especially around the dinner table, with some of his favorite delicacies including cherry pie and coffee.

He is also survived by nine grandchildren, Christopher, Rebekah and Anna Shelton, Katie, Allie and Caleb Martin and Riley, Cameron and Adam Collier, and several nieces and nephews.
