Peggy
Hagins
May 30, 1943 – May 2, 2026
Peggy Ann Hagins, aged 82, peacefully entered eternal rest on Friday, May 1, 2026, at Emerald Health and Rehabilitation in Lillington, North Carolina. A loving mother and grandmother, Peggy was a woman of deep faith who touched the lives of many.
Born on May 30, 1943, in Johnston County to Haywood and Mabel Hagins, Peggy graduated from Franklin K. Lane High School in Brooklyn, New York. After high school, she dedicated over ten years working for the Mercantile Corporation while attending Hunter College in New York City. Following her time in Brooklyn, she returned to Raleigh, North Carolina, where she worked for more than twenty years and retired as a Payroll Data Entry Operator at North Carolina State University.
Peggy truly lived life to the fullest. Though she loved the beach, she could not swim, yet she delighted in island hopping and cruising to destinations such as Jamaica, the Bahamas, Puerto Rico, and Bermuda. She cherished traveling and enjoyed special trips to Wilmington with family and friends, including Ding, Teresa, Sondra, Marva, and others. Above all, Peggy treasured simple pleasures—cherishing conversations and fellowship with her loved ones.
Deeply committed to her faith, Peggy was an avid church attendee both in Brooklyn and North Carolina. She found great joy in her Bible Study Fellowship classes, completing seven-year courses and extended three-year classes over a span of more than ten years, until her health declined.
Peggy now rests in peace alongside her parents, Haywood and Mabel, and her brothers Larry, Archie, Ira, Bobby, and Haywood Jr., as well as her sister Rena Bell Sanders. She is lovingly survived by her son Deron Carney; grandchildren Brijan Turner and Deron Carney II; god-grandchild Javon Lee; sisters Mary McKnight, Delores Jeffries, and Sadie Smith; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Her greatest pride and joy were her beloved grandchildren.
Peggy Ann Hagins will be warmly remembered for the love she freely gave, her spirited and loving nature, and her unwavering devotion to God.
