Michael Lewis, age 52, passed away surrounded by love, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, talent, and cherished memories. Michael was a gentle giant whose warm spirit and loving nature touched everyone who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Cheryl Lewis; his mother, Joyce Lewis; and his sister, Jennifer Lewis.
Michael leaves to cherish his memory his loving children, daughter Khadijah Richardson and son Miquel Lewis; his father, Henry Lee Gavins (Gladys Gavins); and his siblings, Stephon Lewis, Henry Lee Gavins Jr., Solomon Gavins, Sarah Gavins, Joshua Gavins, Ebony Gavins, and Naje Gavins. He also leaves behind 40 nieces and nephews, his dear aunts and uncles—Mary Alice, Eddie, Janet Gavins, Frank Jr. Gavins, Rosevelt, and John Hodge—as well as his great-aunt Arelene. Michael will be fondly remembered by a host of cousins across North Carolina, New York, New Jersey, Atlanta, South Carolina, and Florida, his bestfriend Junior, and friend, Christine White.
Michael was very active in church when he moved to NC. He was an armor baron, ushered in church, sing in the choir, and drove the church van. He was so active in church wherever they needed him, he was there.
Michael had a passion for life and a gift for bringing joy to others. He was an exceptional basketball player who played the game with great skill and beyond the court, he was a talented artist who loved to draw, and he found joy in singing and dancing. His creativity and vibrant personality made him truly one of a kind.
Known for his loving and gentle spirit, Michael was adored by many. His presence brought comfort, laughter, and happiness to those around him. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
