**Obituary for Mary Jean Lefgren Moody**


Mary Jean Lefgren Moody, born on June 27, 1942, in Ogden, Utah, to the late James S. and Ida I. Lefgren, passed away peacefully. She was a proud graduate of Ben Lomond High School in Ogden and began her career with the Internal Revenue Service before relocating to North Carolina.


Mary is preceded in death by her parents and her beloved son, Donnie Gunn. She is survived by her daughter, Trea Peterson, two grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Additionally, she is remembered by her sisters Joan Conklin, Christina Greene, and Suzanne McFadden, along with her brothers James (Jim) Lefgren, John Lefgren, David Lefgren, and Lynn Lefgren.


Mary enjoyed a close friendship with Maureen Davies, who has been her best friend since third grade. Her friend Joel Morrison provided loving care and support for Mary during the past fifteen years.


A devoted member of First Presbyterian Church in Smithfield, Mary was active in numerous aspects of church life. She was fondly known in the community for her unique "Minnie Pearl" hat, complete with its signature tag.


Family and friends will gather to honor Mary at the JOY (Just Older Youth) Connection luncheon at First Presbyterian Church on September 4 at noon.


In lieu of flowers, the family invites those who wish to remember Mary to make a donation to the SECU Hospice House, directed to the Johnston Health Foundation, PO Box 1376, Smithfield, NC 27577. Please include "Hospice Fund in memory of Mary Moody" on the memo line.


Mary's kindness, generosity, and vibrant spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
