Mary Delores “Mookie” Smith was born on May 17, 1994, in WakeCounty to Gwendolyn Barnes and the late George Smith Jr.
She received her education in Johnston County and earned herGED from Johnston Community College. She later continued herstudies at Liberty University, where she remained enrolled untilher untimely passing.
Mookie was a kindhearted young woman who was friendly toeveryone she met. She loved to sing, whether online with herviewers or with family. When she felt a song in her spirit, shewould simply begin to sing. She loved to pray and call on Jesus inevery situation. She also enjoyed mime ministry and remainedactive in church whenever she could. Reading the Word wasimportant to her, and she shared it with family and friends everychance she had. Through TikTok, she encouraged and upliftedothers, often hosting Bible studies and spreading positivity.
Mookie was a giver in every way. From sharing recipes with hersister to keeping everyone updated on what was happening inthe city, she was always a source of information and support. Ifyou wanted to know something, you could call Mookie. She lovedshopping, creating picture collages, and staying connected withher family. She valued family deeply and worked hard to keepeveryone close.
She was preceded in death by her father, George Smith Jr.; herbrother, Paul Tarver; and her grandmother, Delores W. Smith, allof Alabama.
She leaves to cherish her memories her mother, GwendolynBarnes (Eddie) of Asheboro, NC; two brothers, Michael Smith(Sakeitra) of Mobile, AL and Benjamin White of Raleigh, NC;three sisters, Regenia Turner (DJ) and Latasha Prince, both ofMobile, AL, and Brittany White-Green (Shaun) of Cameron, NC;two godmothers, Ruthie Parker and Tierra Jackson, both of NC;three godsisters; one godbrother; and a host of aunts, uncles,nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Mary’s legacy of music and song will live on in our hearts forever.
