Martha Denton, 74, passed away on Saturday, November 1, 2025. She was born

on August 6, 1951, to the late Walter Henry Brewer and Leatrice Clark Brewer.

Martha graduated for Aurelian Springs High School in 1969. She graduated from

Halifax Tech as an LPN the following year. She worked in healthcare for more

than four decades before officially retiring. After retirement she continued to love

and support those in need as a private duty sitter.

Martha was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Lawrence A Denton, Jr,

parents, Walter Henry and Leatrice Brewer, brother and sister-in-law, John and

Cathy Brewer. She is survived by several cousins and friends and, of course, her

cats.

Martha was a long time member of Bear Swamp Baptist Church.

Martha loved history and belonged to several historical women's organizations.

She had been a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and was a

very active and a long term member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy.

Martha served the UDC on the Chapter, District, Division (state) and General

(national) levels. She served the UDC as chapter president of Roanoke Rapids

2332 for many terms. She held three NC Division offices. She was recognized for

her contributions to the NC UDC by being named an Honorary Division

President.

Martha was always the caretaker and nurturer, wanting the best for everyone. She

was an avid reader where she found pleasure, adventure, and education. She was

especially fond of cats, taking in any and all strays – the epitome of the cat lady.

Martha lived simply and loved large. She was a friend for life.

A memorial service will be held at Bear Swamp Baptist Church, 15227 Hwy 48,

Littleton on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at 11:00 with reception/visitation to

follow in the church’s Fellowship Hall.
