Larry G. Armstrong, passed away on January 2, 2025. Born on September 23, 1953, at Johnston Memorial Hospital in Smithfield, NC, Larry lived a life marked by service, education, and commitment to his community. He began his spiritual journey at an early age, attending Sanders Chapel Original Free Will Baptist Church. Larry pursued his education in Johnston County, attending Johnston County Training School, South Campus, andSmithfield-Selma Senior High School. He furthered his studies at theBreckenridge Job Corps Center in Morganfield, Kentucky. On July 23, 1972, Larry joined the U.S. Army and served as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, NC.
In 1985, Larry moved to Rochester, NY, where he earned an Associate of Science Degree from Monroe Community College in 1998. He dedicated 25 years of his career to the Rochester City School District, working with special needs children, and also served with Lifetime Assistance. He retired in 2010.
Larry was preceded in death by his son, Aaron Lee Armstrong; his parents, Doretha E. Armstrong and John Larry Armstrong; and his grandparents, Adeline E. McKoy and John Holley McKoy.
He is survived by his sister, Retha M. Armstrong, and a host of family and friends.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude for the thoughts, prayers, love, and support during this time.
