Kenneth Maurice Sherard

February 5, 1959 — June 1, 2020

Due to COVID-19, the Governor of North Carolina has asked that all gatherings be limited to no more than 50 people including staff and all attendees such as clergy, ushers, musicians, etc. Please check with the family to see if you are invited.

Kenneth Maurice Sherard was born February 5, 1959, at Johnston County Memorial Hospital, the tenth child of Exsport and Lucy Sherard. Throughout his childhood years, he attended Bagley Elementary School and Micro Elementary School. In the following years, he attended North Johnston High School, where he excelled in football. Upon graduation, with the instrumental help of Coach Harvey Reid he received a scholarship to Fresno City College, where he played football for two years and transferred to San Francisco State University. It was there that he met his wife of thirteen years and graduated with a degree in Black Studies.

After conceiving his firstborn son, he moved with his family back to the East Coast and subsequently had two more boys. He was a devout Christian, dedicated family man, and an intellectual. He went on to pursue a degree in Theology and became a mentor for many at-risk youth in the cities of Stone Mountain and Decatur, where he spent his latter years.

His parents and his sisters Brenda and Michelle preceded him in death. He leaves behind his former wife, Mwasaa (Denita) Sherard; his three boys, Angalifu White, Jahi Sherard, and Jalani Sherard; his loving siblings, Carlene Powell, Hannah Smith (Raymond), Evelyn Sherard, Jackie Lassiter (Tony Sr.), Belinda Futrell (Jesse - deceased) William Sherard (Shirley), Frank Sherard (Barbara), and Elton Ray Sherard (Angie), one brother-in-law Sandy Richardson and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
