REFLECTIONS
Kenneth “Chub” Doc Johnson, 68, of Smithfield, North Carolina, passed away on April 21, 2026.
Kenneth was born on May 6, 1959, in New York, to Doc Johnson and Dorothy Faye Liles. He was known for bringing family, friends, and his community together through his famous fish fries and spirited games of horseshoes. He loved to cook, go shopping, and listen to old school music, with Otis Redding as his favorite artist. Kenneth was someone his family and community looked up to and could always count on. He was known locally as the “community taxi” and was also humorously called a “loan shark” because he was always willing to lend a helping hand.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Doc Johnson and Dorothy Faye Liles; his sister, Felicia “Bonnie” Johnson; his brothers, Tony Johnson and Moo Moo; his granddaughter, Michiko Duff; and his niece, Jerika Session. Kenneth is survived by his wife, Rochelle Johnson; his daughter, Mitchico Strickland (Donald); and his grandchildren and great- grandchildren, Quintara (9), Kamaya (1), and Desteny (2). He is also survived by his stepchildren and step-grandchildren, Brian (3) and Justin (2).
Kenneth’s presence, love for his family, and strong connection to his community will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His memory will continue to live on through the many lives he touched.
