On Thursday, October 5, 2023, Katie Foye McCullers, 70, of Wendell, NC, passed away at Pruitt Health in Durham, NC. Katie Foye McCullers was born in Johnston County, NC to Menzy (Eddie) Sims-Foye and Robert Earl O’Neal on January 3, 1953. Katie was known as Katie Mae by some and was loved and cherished by all who she encountered. In 1972, she was united in holy matrimony to the late Charles McCullers, and to this union, one son was born. Mrs. McCullers graduated from Smithfield Selma Senior High School in 1972. She lived in the Selma area for many years and later relocated to the Wendell area. Katie worked in housekeeping for many years. She was the pillar of family gatherings, affectionately gracing us with her beautiful smile and euphonious voice! Katie was preceded in death by her grandparents, parents, two brothers, two sisters, and son, Nicholas “Nicki Nuk” Dewayne McCullers. Katie leaves to cherish her memories; her three sons, Don C. McCullers (Tammi) of Zebulon, NC, Quincy J. McCullers (Tracy) of Selma, NC, and Quintin J. McCullers of Selma, NC; eleven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; six sisters, Nellie G. Parker of Suffolk, VA, Diane Foye of Selma, NC, Gwendolyn Barbour of Durham, NC, Elouise Brown of NYC, Adell Foye of Colonial Beach, VA, and Tedra Fair (Herman) of Clayton, NC; two brothers, Elijah Foye of Atlanta, GA and Fernandez (Zeke) O’Neal of Clayton, NC; one great-great nephew, Amaar Brockington. Katies also leaves behind a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, friends, a bonus mother, Mary Rich of Selma, NC, stepmother, Sallie Ward-O’neal, and one special friend, Mr. William Reeves.
