Obituary

Joyce Faye Stancil Council, age 71 of Selma, peacefully departed this life on Tuesday, May 7, 2024.  She was born on February 9, 1953, in Johnston County to the late Robert and Armittia Stancil. She attended Richard B. Harrison and graduated from Smithfield-Selma Senior High School. She was the ninth child out of fifteen children. She was proceeded in death by her parents, Robert and Armittia Stancil, three brothers Euroise Stancil, Robert Earl Stancil Jr., Levi Stancil, Sr., and two sisters Velma McCrae and Miggie Smith. 

Joyce worked at Sylvania and she was also a caretaker for her parents for many years. She loved spending time watching “Wheel of Fortune” and “Family Feud”. She loved word puzzles and her favorite TV show was a western “Gun Smoke”. Her favorite saying was “He is a Good God”. Joyce had a big heart for people, no matter how much money she had she would always give her last. She had a big heart and an even bigger one for her grandchildren.  She loved each and every one of them and they loved her. 

She leaves to cherish her precious memories with her husband, Ervin Council, her son, Anthony Council (Lashay), and her daughter Sandra Samuels. Seven grandchildren: Devonta Surles (Ally), Christopher Samuels, Shauna Samuels, Alexis Council, Anthony Council Jr., Malik Council, and Ashanti Council. Six Siblings: Helen Bodrick, Eloise Stevens, Aldoria Washington (Warren), Brenda Watson (Doug), Janice Rhue (John), Patty Jones (Michael), Franklin Stancil (Kristen), and Bernice Stancil (Sabine). One sister-in-law Debra Shipman.  Four Great- Grandchildren: Allure Lee, Alana Lee, Gianna Surles, Milani Council, and a host of many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
