THE OBITUARY
Apostle Mitchell was born in Smithfield, NC on March 8th, 1949. She was the daughter of Clarence and Rosa Mae Watson Smith. Apostle Ida Marie Mitchell took hold of her Lord & Savior’s hand and quietly slipped away on May 15th, 2025.
Ida graduated from Richard B. Harrison HS. She graduated from Shaw University with a Bachelor of Arts in Public Administration and a Minor in Religion & Philosophy. She was previously employed at Shaw University as an Office Manager in Alumni Relations and Owner & CEO of Mitchell & Associates preparing taxes. She was a member of Howell’s Chapel Church of Christ for many years before the Lord called her to start her own ministry as Pastor & Senior Apostle of New Covenant Faith Ministries and later founded of a School of Ministry, Covenant Life International Bible College (CLIBC).
She was married to the late Edward Newsome. She later married Elder Jimmy Mitchell. Ida was preceded in death by her mother and father, her paternal grandfather Elder Roland Smith, her paternal grandmother Lela Whitley Smith, her older sister Etta Rosa Watson, her older brother Roland Clarence Smith and her foster parents Willie and Julia Pettiway.
Apostle Mitchell was obedient and committed to preaching the gospel by any means necessary which included her morning cell phone prayer line and praise & worship services. She was praying and mentoring internationally and worldwide. She would regularly fellowship with other evangelicals from different countries. Later in life, Ida would become passionate about cooking and eating healthier. She liked making soups and trying new cookware. She enjoyed watching a good sci-fi flick or a scary movie with her family. Apostle Mitchell remained a spiritual advocate, faith-based counselor, and religious teacher throughout her life. She will be remembered as a faithful & loving mother and grandmother who delighted in cooking and living a more health-conscious lifestyle, spending time with friends & family, and praising the Lord whenever possible.
She leaves to cherish her memory, two sons: Tony L. Newsome of the home Selma, NC;Edward B. Newsome of Raleigh, NC; one daughter Jaime C. Mitchell of Raleigh, NC; two brothers: John Claude Smith of Louisburg, NC; and Eddie C. Smith (Linda) of Raleigh, NC; grandchildren Jakara D. Mitchell, Corey F. Morrison, and great grandchildren: Madison Hawkins, Treshon Stevens, Kori Morrison, and Bella Flowers, nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.
Ida’s departure brings sadness into our lives. Let us find comfort in the memories and celebrate her everlasting life with the Heavenly Father.
