“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”
On September 8, 2025, our beloved Harvey James (Jay) Dublin III was called to glory and received his eternal reward. Jay was born
on August 6, 1950, to Ruth Caldwell Dublin and Harvey James Dublin II. Along with his parents, he was preceded in eternal rest
by his maternal grandparents, Raymond L. and Gladys Foster Caldwell; his sister, Rita L. Dublin; and his paternal grandparents, Harvey J. Dublin I
and Mary Raiford Dublin.
At the age of 11, Jay accepted Christ and was baptized. He later became a devoted and longtime member of St. Mark AME Church.
He graduated from Johnston Central High School in 1968. At 20, he joined the United States Army and later received an honorable
discharge. After his service, Jay continued his education, first taking courses at Mount Olive College and Campbell College. At
24, he studied Speech and Radio-Television-Motion Pictures at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he also
trained in piano and organ. Jay was well known for his remarkable musical gifts, especially his mastery of the piano and organ.
Following his studies at UNC, he went on to have an extraordinary career, serving as a PBX Operator at WRAL for 12
years and as a radio news anchor at WSHA for 5 years. His legacy continues through his niece, Rishawnta CeMoune
Dublin; his great-nephew, Azhir LaShawn Smith of Raleigh, NC; his brother, Roderick Ennis of Fort Worth, MD; and a host of cousins.
