It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our belovedGregory Steven Duff, affectionately known as “DJ Baby D,” of NewtonGrove, North Carolina. Gregory departed this life on May 24, 2026, atCape Fear Valley Hospice and Palliative Care in Fayetteville, NorthCarolina, at the age of 55. Though his passing leaves an immeasurablevoid, the love, laughter, wisdom, and music he shared will forever remainin the hearts of those who knew and loved him. His legacy will continueto live on through the countless lives he touched.
Gregory Steven Duff was born on August 25, 1970, in Johnston County,North Carolina, to the late Heddie Richardson Duff and George Duff.He attended Johnston County Public Schools and graduated from SouthJohnston High School. He later made his home in Newton Grove, wherehe became well known for his many talents and strong work ethic.
Gregory wore many hats throughout his life. He was skilled inautomobile detailing, barbering, carpentry, and was widely recognized as“DJ Baby D” Bossman. Whatever he set his hands to, he approached withdetermination, pride, and excellence. His confidence and leadershipearned him the nickname “Bossman,” a title that reflected the way hecarried himself and handled his business.
Gregory was known for being straightforward and honest. He neverbelieved in beating around the bush and always spoke his mind. Whilesome may have mistaken his directness for toughness, those who trulyknew him understood the caring, loyal, and generous heart behind hisstrong presence. He was the person you could count on for honestadvice, whether you asked for it or not. If you wanted a straight answer,Gregory was the one to call.
He was preceded in death by his beloved grandparents; his parents,Heddie Richardson Duff and George Duff; and his siblings, Ronnie Duff,George Duff, and Sherwood Duff.
Gregory leaves behind a lifetime of cherished memories and a legacy thatwill continue through those he loved. He is survived by his children:Gregory Duff, Jr. and Felicia Chance of Harnett County; ShanikaPressley-Duff and Rebecca Pressley-Duff of Johnston County; QuincyDuff of the home; and Shaquita Nichols of Harnett County.
He also leaves to cherish his memory his beloved grandchildren,Tamaurie Duff, Malakhy McNeill, Jabari Johnson, and Montrell Duff.Gregory is further survived by his adopted family, Ma Villa, Rose, Marie,Genevieve, and Jeanne, along with a host of nieces, nephews, otherrelatives, dear friends, and loved ones who will forever hold him close intheir hearts.Although Gregory's presence will be deeply missed, his spirit,wisdom, and love will continue to live on in the hearts of all who wereblessed to know him
