Eva Mae Mickens Godwin

February 1, 1944 — May 14, 2022

Mrs. Eva M. Godwin was born Eva Mae
Simmons on February 1, 1944, in Goldsboro NC to the late
Mary Simmons Mickens and the late Needham Cox. Ms. Eva
was raised by Mary and William H. Mickens. On May 14,
2022, early Saturday morning with her daughters by her side,
she entered into eternal rest. She was preceded in death by her
daughter, Tychinna B. Godwin, sisters, Georgia Joyner, Lucy
Russell, and Brother James Streeter.
Mrs. Eva's first place of employment was Nelsons Coffee
Pot in Smithfield, NC. Other workplaces include Sylvania
and Data General. Mrs. Eva retired from Goodmark Foods in
Garner, NC in 2009.
Mrs. Eva joined The Church of God of Prophecy
in Selma, NC in the early 1960s. She was among the first
members. Mrs. Eva held many positions in the church to name
a few: choir member, and pastor's aide. Head usher was her
favorite and lastly, she served as armourbearer. She loved her
pastor.
Mrs. Eva was called by many names with Grandma
and Ole lady Grandma being her favorites. She was called this
by so many and not all were blood-related but LOVE-related.
Mrs. Eva was known by many for her cooking, delicious cakes,
greens, potato salad, and punch. She has feed many and loved
every minute of it. She had a love for shopping and fashion.
We can't forget her soaps- The Y and R and The B and B ( you
know what it is).
Mrs. Eva leaves to cherish her memories: her husband
Mr. King Godwin, daughters, Regina Godwin, Betsy Tamica
Blackwell ( Gerald ), Tavia Mickens sons: King Rodney
Godwin ( Trina ), Tarvaris Mickens ( Laura ) Taquan Mickens,
Tion Mickens, step-daughter Vanessa Pettiway ( Onzell )
Sisters; Josephine Books, Luvearn Olawuni, Mary Gulley (
Jerry ) and Brenda Mickens who she raised from the age of
12 years old. Brothers; William Mickens ( Goosey ), Thurman
Mickens ( Ruby ). 24 Grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren,
and Special friends; Jeannette White, and George Royal.
Numerous Godchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins,
and friends.
