Deacon Elmo Shepherd, Sr., age 91, peacefully transitioned from this life on March 29, 2026. Born on February 23, 1935, he lived a long and faithful life marked by devotion to God, his family, and his community. Deacon Elmo Shepherd, Sr. was preceded in death by his parents, Jessie and Victoria Shepherd; his brothers, Alvester Shepherd, James Shepherd, Harold Shepherd, and Edward Shepherd; his sisters, Claudia Shepherd, Earlene, Shepherd, and Elizabeth Ellis; and his children, Elmo Shepherd, Jr. and Kent Shepherd.
Faith and Service Deacon Shepherd was a man of deep faith who served the Lord with humility and dedication. As a devoted deacon, he was a pillar in his church, always willing to lend a helping hand, oer wise counsel, and share the Word of God. His presence brought comfort and strength to many, and his legacy of service will continue to inspire all who knew him.
Family Life
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He cherished his family and took great pride in the lives and accomplishments of his children and grandchildren. His guidance, patience, and unconditional love created a strong foundation that will carry on for generations.
Closing Statement
Elmo Shepherd started his own concreting company through determination, discipline, and skill. He worked with his hands to provide for his family. He took pride in honest work and in doing every job with integrity. Every foundation poured and every project completed reflected his strong work ethic. Faith is the cornerstone of Elmo Shepherd’s life. He loved the Lord and continues to love Him deeply. His relationship with Jesus Christ sustained him through every season of life. Elmo Shepherd served faithfully at Holy Temple Church where he served for many years as chairman deacon. His service to the church was not just a position, but a calling rooted in obedience and devotion to God. Though he is no longer with us in body, his spirit lives on in the hearts of all who loved him.
Deacon Elmo Shepherd, Sr. leaves to cherish his loving memory his devoted children: Alexander Shepherd (Karen) of Selma, North Carolina; Timmy Shepherd (Darlene) of Selma, North Carolina; Janice Hinton (Ronald) of Smithfield, North Carolina; Barbara Shepherd of Selma, North Carolina; and Michael Shepherd (Daniele) of Selma, North Carolina. He is also survived by his siblings: Mildred Stowe; Bernice McNair (Mack); Juliet Davis; Irene Alford (Greg); Wesley Shepherd (Vivian); and Velvaline Sanders (Nathaniel). Cherishing his legacy are his beloved grandchildren: Marcus Stevens, Terry Stevens, Jasire Carter, Shantae Jackson, Michelle Powell, Sharita Shepherd, Christina Shepherd, Kevin White, Kim Shepherd, Alexander Shepherd II, Markel Shepherd, Jonathan Shepherd, Sabrina Shepherd, John Shepherd, Devon Hinton, Alyiah Hinton, Michael D. Shepherd, and Montrell Shepherd; along with a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.
