Doretha Mae Godwin

Doretha Mae Godwin was born November 14, 1950. She was the daughter of Dock Roger Godwin and Carrie Mae McKinnon Godwin. Doretha transitioned on Wednesday, November 29, 2021 after a lengthy battle with cancer. Doretha was born in Smithfield, North Carolina, which is where she was educated and worked. She was raised and resided in Selma, North Carolina. Doretha became a Certified Nursing Assistant through Johnston Technical Institution on August 16, 1977. She worked at Smitheld Manor for over 14 years. She gave birth to her one and only child, her baby, her boy Sylvester Alexander Hinton IV on February 18, 1978. He was her world! Doretha was preceded in death by both her parents "Dock" and Carrie Godwin and her sisters Josephine Talton (Roger); Deloris Sinkler (Joe); Rochell Howell (Leonard "Snip"). She leaves to cherish her memory: one son: Sylvester Alexander Hinton IV, her brothers: Dock Godwin, Jr (Wanda); James Godwin,: Alvin Godwin (Diane), her sister: Emma Morris; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, great nieces and nephews, a "dear friend" Henry Lee Tolbert and her "best friend" and co-worker Linda Joyner.
