**Obituary for Demetrius “Scooter” Moore**


Demetrius “Scooter” Moore was born on July 8, 1984, at George Washington University Hospital in Washington, D.C., to the late Constance Deloris Moore and the late George “Alvin” Darby. He departed this life on August 1, 2025.


Demetrius was a vibrant and energetic individual who touched the hearts of all who knew him. His playful spirit, sense of humor, and lightheartedness made him a cherished presence in the lives of his family and friends. Known for his kind heart and unwavering love for his family, Demetrius exemplified generosity and kindness in all his interactions.


He attended Orr Elementary School in Washington, D.C., William Wirt Middle School in Riverdale, Maryland, and graduated from Bladensburg Senior High School in Bladensburg, Maryland. Demetrius pursued his passion for cooking and graduated from Culinary Arts School in 2024. He took great pleasure in applying his culinary talents in the kitchen, often reaching out to his grandmother, Marie, for cherished recipes, particularly for favorites like banana pudding and homemade macaroni and cheese.


Demetrius was predeceased by his parents, Constance D. Moore and George “Alvin” Darby; his paternal grandparents, Willie and Grace Darby; his aunts, Linda Brown, Brickley “Elaine” Moore, and Martinae Moore; and his uncle, Karlos Sanders.


He leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish his memory. Demetrius is survived by his daughter, Ayonne Thomas of Maryland; one brother, Deon Moore of Smithfield, NC; his godmother, Donnie McKenzie of Washington, D.C.; four sisters, Katrina Moore and Shameka Moore of Benson, NC, and Michelle McKenzie and Ebony Moore of Washington, D.C.; his maternal grandparents, Marie and James Lathon of Benson, NC; two aunts, Sylvia Gamble (John) of Greeleyville, SC, and Helena Darby of Maryland; two uncles, Kenneth Moore (Percillia) of Washington, D.C., and Jerome Darby of Maryland; several nieces, including Dionna Holmes and McKenziy Jones of Washington, D.C., and Ka’Niya Moore, Monique Redmond, and India Redmond of Benson, NC; three nephews, Christopher Redmond, Bryson Moore, and Joshua Smith of Benson, NC; his longtime best friend and mother of his child, Domonique Thomas of Maryland; his close friend, Tony; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and relatives.


Demetrius will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him, and his spirit will live on in the hearts of his loved ones.
