Cora Jackson Artis

December 31, 1929 — April 23, 2025

Four Oaks

Cora Jackson Artis was born to the late Jake and Lois Jackson on December 31, 1929, and

passed into her heavenly home on April 23, 2025. She was married to the late Archie Artis

until his passing on February 4, 1974.

From their union came five children: the late Varline Artis Spann, Archie Artis IV

(Phyllis), Sandra Artis Williams (the late Charles), Janice Artis Rucker (Dr. Gregory), and

Vivilia Artis Jolley (Stuart). She was blessed with five grandchildren, eight great-

grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. Cora was preceded in death by her three

sisters and one brother. She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins who

loved her dearly.

Cora retired as a school cafeteria worker from Four Oaks Elementary. She also worked in

the Johnston County Detention Department, was employed at Sylvania, and ran her own

cleaning service for many years before and after retirement.

She loved gardening and took great pride in keeping her lawn spotless—not even a pine

cone was left on the ground. She planted flowers with care, kept her home tidy, and enjoyed

sewing. Cora had a deep love for Smith Chapel Original Free Will Baptist Church, where

she served in many ministries and cherished her church family. She truly loved and cared

for her children, always providing for them.

Though she only had a sixth-grade education, she was incredibly smart and handled life

with wisdom and strength. She lived a long, admirable life and made a lasting impact on

her family. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
