Charles James
Bailey, Jr.
August 15, 1967 – April 19, 2026
Charles James Bailey Jr., 58, was born on August 15, 1967, in Brooklyn, New York, to Charles James Bailey Sr. and Christine Robinson Bailey White. He transitioned peacefully at home on April 19, 2026.
Charles, lovingly known as “Charlie,” was educated in the New York City and Freeport, Long Island school systems. He served in the United States Army and later became a long-distance truck driver. One of his proudest accomplishments was purchasing his own rig.
Charles and his wife, Cheryl Cox-Bailey of Smithfield, North Carolina, shared 29 years of marriage, celebrating their anniversary on January 19.
Charles had a deep love for sports and was a devoted fan of New York teams, including the Knicks, Giants, Rangers, and Mets. One of his most cherished memories was attending a Giants game with his family, complete with a tailgating experience at the Meadowlands. The Giant's’ Super Bowl victory in 2011 was especially meaningful as he celebrated alongside his son and brother.
He would always remember the moment Mario Manningham caught the pass from Eli Manning, shouting, “He caught it! He caught it!” These memories will forever be treasured.
Above all, Charles was a devoted family man. There was nothing he would not do for those he loved. Whether it was sitting through long band concerts, coaching youth teams, or watching video games he did not quite understand, he was always present. He could often be found proudly standing behind the grill at family gatherings, serving as the steady rock that held everyone together. Charles was an amazing father, husband, and man who will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Charles leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Cheryl Cox-Bailey; his children, Shanice Bailey, Jasmine Bailey, Taylor Cox, Jonathan Bailey (Faith), Charles Bailey, and Alexander Bailey; and his grandchildren, Chris Bailey, Jackson Bailey, and James Bailey. He is also survived by his brothers, Darryl Bell, Frank Hodges (Toni), Kevin Bailey (Cheryl), and Terrence Bailey; his sister, Tanya Bailey-Pettiford; and his mother, Christine White (preceded in death by Luther White).
He also leaves his mother- and father-in-law, Marshall and Ann Cox of Pine Level, North Carolina; his stepmother, Grace Bell Bailey Edwards (Robert); his aunts, Muffy, Cheryl, Nancy, and Gigi; his uncles, Gregory and Grant; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other loving family members
