Bobby Lee Singleton, affectionately known as "Bobby," was born on July 28, 1948, in Winston Salem, N.C., to the late Bobby Lee Singleton, Sr. and Irene L. Singleton. He peacefully passed away on October 28, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of strength, humor, and love.
A proud alumnus of Carver High School, Bobby dedicated his career to Shields Construction and made significant contributions to his community. Bobby was not only known for his professional achievements but also for his fighting spirit. He bravely battled throat cancer and various other ailments without medical treatment, relying solely on his determination and will to survive. His tenacity was an inspiration to many, showcasing his strength of character.
Bobby was strong-headed and had a unique sense of humor that brought smiles to those around him. He loved his family dearly, and his grandchildren were the light of his life. Bobby migrated to Smithfield, NC, for several years, where he created cherished memories with his loved ones. Though he returned to his roots in Winston Salem, life brought him back to Smithfield, where he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, instilling his values and love in them.
He was predeceased by his parents and siblings: Wilbert Singleton, Bernard Singleton, and Carolyn Brown.
Bobby is survived by his loving siblings: Clara Smith of Winston Salem, NC; James (Nettie) Singleton of Wilmington, Delaware; Arthur “Pinky” Montgomery of Winston Salem, NC; and Rose Johnson of Greensboro, NC. He is also survived by his cherished children: Emmanuel Crowell, Barbara Jean Neil, Loretta Diane Neil, and Lamont Raiford, all of Winston Salem, NC, and Smithfield, NC, along with a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will miss him dearly.
