Betty Jean Sykes, 81, of Goldsboro, North Carolina, passed away on May 4, 2026 at Kindred Hospital in Greensboro NC. She was born on June 19, 1944, in Wayne County, North Carolina, to the late Mable and Leamon Sykes Sr. of Princeton, North Carolina. Betty lived a life defined by her unwavering faith, her commitment to serving the Lord, and her dedication to preaching the gospel. She was known for her sharp wit and honest spirit—never hesitating to speak the truth, whether easy or difficult to hear.

Minister Betty Sykes was a devoted member of her church and remained steadfast in her faith in Jesus Christ. She spent over 25 years working in production, where she made a meaningful and lasting impact. Beyond her professional life, Minister Betty found her greatest joy in ministry. She was a true prayer warrior who faithfully shared the Word of God, served her community through the food bank, participated in various ministerial services and loved writing poems.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mable and Leamon Sykes Sr.; two brothers, Willie Sykes and Pastor Charles Sykes; and one sister, Margie Lassiter.

She leaves to cherish her memory her sisters, Pastor Geraldine Sykes and Mable Sykes of the home, Lois Broadie (Marvin) of LaGrange, North Carolina; and her brother, Pastor Leamon Sykes Jr. (Santa Fe) of Princeton, North Carolina, along with a host of nieces and nephews, extended family, church family, and friends who will deeply miss her presence and legacy.

Minister Betty Jean Sykes will be remembered for her steadfast faith, her powerful voice in ministry, and her enduring love for God and others.
