Betty Sue Bryant Dunston, a cherished soul born on June 30, 1947, in Smithfield, North Carolina, gracefully passed away on November 4, 2025. The beloved daughter of the late Lee Arthur Bryant and Ira Lee Bryant, Betty embraced her faith in Christ early in life, becoming a devoted member of Galilee Baptist Church in Smithfield.
Throughout her life, Betty dedicated herself to caring for others, working faithfully as a housekeeper at Comfort Inn Suites until her well-deserved retirement. She found joy in the simple pleasures—solving crossword puzzles, watching “In the Heat of the Night,” and preparing meals filled with love for her family and friends.
Betty’s memory is tenderly held by her loving mother, Ira Lee; her devoted daughter, Cheryl Raynor; and her sons, Micheal Raynor, Walter White (Carleda), and Shaun White (Lakasha). She also leaves behind her dear sister, Casandra Dublin, and eight brothers: Lee Arthur Bryant Jr., Hubert Lee Davis, Lee Bryant, Lee Ray Bryant, Donald Bryant (Brenda), Kenneth Speights, Cedrick Speights (Teresa), and Luther Brokington (Laverne).
Her legacy continues through eleven wonderful grandchildren—Stefon Raynor, Tavion Raynor, Maurice Raynor, Ja’Mya Raynor, Taliyah White, Winter White, Elijah White, D’Viyah Ruffin, Dianes Ruffin, Shaun White Jr., and Shane White—as well as a large family of nieces, nephews, and many other cherished relatives.
Preceded in death by her father, her brothers Herbert Frank Bryant and James Bryant, and her son Kenneth Raynor, Betty’s warmth, kindness, and unwavering love will forever resonate in the hearts of all who were fortunate to know her. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered as a treasured mother, sister, grandmother, and friend.
