Beth Ellen Albert Hilton

Charlotte, NC – Beth Albert Hilton, 67, of Charlotte, NC, passed away at SECU Hospice House of Johnson County, in Smithfield, NC on Nov. 20, 2021. She had been diagnosed with ovarian cancer 4 weeks earlier. Originally from Portland, ME, Beth is survived by her two sons: Jason Hilton of Estes Park, CO and Timothy Hilton of Raleigh, NC; her two sisters: Elise Albert of Milwaukie, OR and Nanette Profenno of Portland, ME; and five grandchildren: Levi, Jackson, Ella, Caroline and Ian. She is preceded in death by her parents, Phillip and Helene Albert of Portland, ME.

After graduating from Deering High School, Beth enlisted in the Army and served in the linguistics department of military intelligence as a Hungarian interpreter before being honorably discharged. Later she attended North Carolina State University and then joined Wycliffe Bible Translators, which took her to Huntington Beach, CA and Dallas, TX before settling down in the Charlotte area.

Beth was always involved in community organizations and local churches as well as international mission trips. Throughout her life she constantly invested in children. First as a mom, but also as a neighborhood mom, coach, substitute teacher, assistant youth pastor, nanny, and grandmother (her grandkids called her Grandbeth). She had an incredible way with kids and was beloved by all she touched.

She is best remembered as being the life of the party and always ready to crack a joke and make you smile. She is remembered by her sons for always being on the phone (mostly with sons rolling their eyes) with somebody helping to talk them through their problems. She loved reading, writing, laughing, being outdoors, and cooking (and eating) delicious food. She loved reading and studying the Bible, and she always said that her life verse was 2 Corinthians 12:9 But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." We are rejoicing now that God's grace is completely surrounding her in heaven.
