Albert Walter Currie

January 11, 1925 — January 17, 2019

Albert Walter Currie was born in Sanford, North Carolina on January 11, 1925 to the late William Walter Currie and the late Mary Kate Petty Currie.
He departed this life on Thursday, January 17, 2019 at his home. He joined Evans Chapel A.M.E. Church after retiring from Washington Gas & Light Co. in Washington, D.C. where he was employed for 28 years.
He attended church faithfully until he was unable to attend due to his declining health. Albert was a loving and giving person who loved people and would do anything he could for you. Talking about loving life, he did. And he truly enjoyed life to the fullest. "God was good to him" he would often say, "I would love to get to my mother's age" which was 94 and he did. His daughter Margie said, "You made it 94 years and 6 days, God is good". He considered Margie to be his "Warden."
Albert knew that from the moment he was born, there was a hunger in us for living life to the fullest. He sought to grasp onto every experience, to enjoy a personal relationship with God and develop a positive relationship with people, as well as to maximize every opportunity to do good for anyone he encountered. He was aware of the fact that God gave him many things which were pleasurable and which God made for him to enjoy such as a good family, a nice home, a good job, but that the primary purpose for these things was only to point him toward God who created all things. God's Grace and gifts made him say over and over, " Thank you, God for Your many blessings." His words of wisdom to the living would be : "Seize each Day to do something good for somebody."
He was preceded in death by his father William Walter Currie and his mother Mary Kate Petty Currie; four sisters Janie Currie, Lizzie Currie, Elsie Mae Williams, and Bertha Fondella Currie; and one brother George Currie.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving daughter Margie Avery (Robert) of Smithfield, North Carolina, Phyllis Smith of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Millisa Gary (Oscar) of Stafford, Virginia; Three sons George Currie of Oxon Hill, Maryland, Omar Holt of Washington, DC, and Jovahnte Russell of Smithfield, North Carolina; Four stepchildren - Jean Bowie, Earnestine Kennedy, and Denise Dorsett of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and James Dorsett (Mattie) of Smithfield, North Carolina; Three special nieces – Harriett Whitley (Chester), Willistine Bridges, and Brenda Buie; a God Daughter Devin Rodriguez; One sister in law Minnie E. McBurnette, One brother in law – Roy Keys (Jackie); and a host of grandchildren, nieces and nephews and a very special and dear friend Pauline Thigpen.
He lived life to the fullest because he never forgot to COUNT HIS BLESSINGS AND TO GIVE GOD CREDIT FOR ALL HIS BLESSINGS! May his soul rest in peace.
